Back to Lyrics
Like the smoke we blow away
Like the smoke we sometimes stay and leave a stain
Like the smoke we fade away
Like the smoke we sometimes stay and leave a stain
You cannot get rid of me
You will smell me in your clothes and in your hair I'll stay
Even in the stillest air
A rush of me takes over and I can't be waved away
Away, away, away, away, away
Away, away, away, away
We move in circles, fast forward and play
Tape rewinding and ripping away
And I'm not scared to start over again
But we can't stay here and play in pretend
In your mind I'll always be
But in your heart, I cannot stay, I'll go away
My roots are in the ground again
My crawl has slowed and here I'll stay to grow some more
And when my grip has loosened up
The heaviness, it doesn't drag me like it did before
I'll stay away, away, away, away
I'll stay away, away, away
We move in circles, fast forward and play
Tape rewinding and ripping away
And I'm not scared to start over again
But we can't stay here and play in pretend

Dissipate is about the friendships we lose on the journey of life. Sometimes, those friendships are just gone with the wind as if they never even happened. Sometimes, we carry traces of those friendships forward with us through our lives.
While they no longer move through life with us, certain things may trigger a flood of memories of the good times (or even bad times) shared.
Reconnecting with those friends can feel like returning home while simultaneously experiencing an internal eruption of grief.
Grieving an existence that no longer exists, grieving a childhood that's so far behind, grieving a friendship that can never be the same.
It feels like passing your childhood home knowing you will never live there the same way again.
Over time, we move forward and it hurts less. Sometimes the love is still there. Sometimes the memories are still there.
Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the same loop with different people, different friendships.
And if these friendships find their way back, I hope being open and honest about the root of the issues that caused the implosion in the first place could allow a new bloom.
But I haven't really found out, yet.
But tell us - what did the song mean to you?
